Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is a pop artist who was very relevant in the 1960s but in this exhibition we learn about the real Warhol the man Andy Warhol, his fears, desires, and what drove him to create art. we see him been of shown threw his queer identity and his idea of death and religion. A lot of his early work from the 1950s show his gay identity ad they were drawings of men he new and desired. Warhol was insecure about his appearance, he was obsessed with beauty. his work 'Before And After'(1961) which is a painting of before and after a nose job. in jun Warhol was shot and he was never the same after that, there was a great shift in his practice and art it took him a while to start painting again. Another work that stands out in the exhibition is his work 'Ladies And Gentlemen'(1975) Warhol was asked to depict drag performance the result was a large painting where Warhol really pushes his use of colour and paint. it is a unique depiction of a community rarely shown. 'Sixty Last Suppers'(1986) is one of his largest works it shows men socialising it was created when Warhol was surrounded by death is is meant to symbolise that we are no different from anyone else. I very much enjoyed this exhibition I think it was very successful. It shows the stages of Warhol's life and how his art and subject changed throughout his life. It shows the hardships he faced and how he used his art to record the world around him.

Félix Fénéon

Félix Fénéon was a french art critic. In this exhibition we are shown some of the many art works he appeared in, owned, and exhibited, as well as him growing as an art critic and collector. The work 'Opus217.Against the Enamel of a Background Rhythmic with Beats and Angles,Tones, and Tints,Portrait of M.Félix Fénéon in 1890.'(1890.)(Oil on canvas) by Paul Signac highlights the young critics unconventional appearance. Signac puts Fénéon's profile against a busy background, a few years before this Fénéon introduced the name Neo-Impressionism to the technique that involved applying colour using tiny dots. This was done by artists such as Paul Signac and Georges-Pierre Seurat. The studies 'Model from the Back.(1886);Model in Profile.(1886);Model.facing Front.(1886-87.)(Oil on wood) by George-Pierre Seurat were considered to be the most precious works in his collection. When Seuart died Fénéon organized exhibitions and sales of his Seuart's work and helped secure the artists legacy. Other works that stand out in the exhibition are Paul Signac.'The Demolition Worker.' (1897-99.)(Oil on canvas.), Félix Vallotton.'The Charge.'(1893)(Woodcut), these works are all from when anarchism began to rise in France Anarchists included Fénéon,signal and many of their artists and writer friends. in 1906 Fénéon took a position as a dealer at the gallery Berheim-Jeune where he brought in works such as Herni Matisee.'Interior with a Young Girl'(Girl Reading)(1905-06)(Oil on canvas) and Carlo Carrà.'Funeral of the Anarchist Galli'(1910-11)(Oil on canvas). Also among his collection were sculptures from Africa and Oceania such as Unrecorded artist(Loango region, Republic of the Congo).Power Figure(Nkisi).(19th-early20th century)(wood and iron). I very much enjoyed going through this exhibition it was very interesting to see the different styles of the works and to learn the significance to his career.
